Cleveland City Schools Names Lisa Earby Principal for Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School

Dr. Russell Dyer, Director of Cleveland City Schools, is proud to announce that Mrs. Lisa Earby will be the first principal at the new Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School. Mrs. Earby has served as principal at E. L. Ross Elementary for the past eight years. Beginning March 1, 2019, Mrs. Earby will start working to open the newest Cleveland school. Ross/Yates Assistant Principal Mrs. Stephanie Stone will step in as Interim Principal at Ross for the remainder of the school year.

Dr. Dyer stated, “Mrs. Earby is the right person to lead our newest elementary school. Her experience as an education leader in our community is well-known. I fully trust her to build a positive learning environment for our students and families and to build the Thunderbird brand. I also am proud to announce Mrs. Stone as the Interim Principal at E. L. Ross Elementary. Mrs. Stone will do a wonderful job leading this school the remainder of the school year.”

An experienced classroom teacher and administrator, Mrs. Earby has been with Cleveland City Schools for 26 years. She was an elementary classroom teacher for twelve years and earned Teacher of the Year four times, System Level Teacher of the Year twice, and Regional Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2005. Prior to serving as principal at Ross Elementary, Mrs. Earby was also Assistant Principal at Cleveland High School for five years.

Mrs. Earby said, “Being appointed to the principal position at Candy's Creek Cherokee Elementary School is a bittersweet change for me. I love Ross, the school and the people. I have been blessed with great relationships with Ross educators, students, and families, and although I'll be moving away from some of them, I'm looking forward to building a Candy's Creek Cherokee school family with both new and familiar faces. Starting a new school is a huge responsibility, but I'm looking forward to building a great team and taking on the challenge together.”

A Cleveland native, Lisa Trewhitt Earby has been married to Dean Earby for 28 years. Her daughter and son-in-law, Gabby and Timothy Davis live in Memphis.
